Signal Mountain Should Be Problem Solvers Around The City

Re: Roy Exum’s “Stay, Signal Mountain, Stay”

Well this article is something to think about. I think the split could go either way, and Signal Mountain schools would still flourish, as they have done for the past several years.

What I'm worried about is why Signal Mountain has not yet had the guts to go be problem solvers at Howard, or Tyner, or Central. Why do we stay on our mountain and try to figure out a way for this to work, when the seemingly easiest way to help ourselves, help our city, help our neighbors, help our family, is to, well, help.

I want to see our Signal Mountain seniors making a trip once a week to study with kids from Tyner. I want to see our elementary aged kids playing ball with the kids at Calvin Donaldson. I wish that we spent the same amount of effort trying to figure out if we can break-up with HCDE on trying to fix the problems that already exist.

These are our neighbors. These are the people we pass on the streets. Just because there is a geographical divide, doesn't mean there should be a social one.

I love Signal Mountain, I always will call it home, but I think sometimes we forget that we are from Chattanooga. We are a small part of what makes something greater. I know that the temptation is prevalent for us to break away, and I understand why, but before we do something that drastic, why don't we start small?

So, my PC, laptop, TV, DVD, iPad and new surround sound music system were ... (click for more)
