'Twas the Afternoon of Thanksgiving

‘Twas the afternoon of Thanksgiving and all through the nation

Family and friends gather to eat, pray and give thanks to the Lord in heaven– long standing traditions

So stuff ourselves, stuff ourselves, stuff ourselves more

Turkey and dressing, ham, casseroles and grandma’s desserts galore

A morning practice with a state title in sight

South Pitt, the Irish, a den full of Red Bank Lions and a Ram Train – a championship will be their delight

The older folks, in shape they believe, head to the park for a friendly game of touch or maybe more

But by Black Friday morn they beg for ice packs, Ben Gay and Flex-all 454

The familiar call of ‘One Mississippi, Two Mississippi’ rings out to slow down the defensive rush

As old quarterbacks believe they still have that magic touch

Hand shakes and high fives after great runs and long passes and the big turkey leg for the triumphant

Now let’s head to the house for desserts – pecan, apple and pumpkin

We are blessed in America, oh yes indeed

Let’s not forget to give a helping hand and hot meals to those in need

Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless Us Everyone

Roy Exum: The Saturday Funnies

I don’t make much of a secret that I hated every single second of the short time I spent in college or that I never took a journalism class. Instead what I know about writing was taught by a far greater collection of experts than you can find on any college campus. Andy Rooney, for example, was a genius with a dry humor who lectured to me almost every Sunday night for about 30 years. ... (click for more)
