DAR Recognizes Lynda Minks Hood For Community Service

Lynda Minks Hood has received the 2017 Community Service Award from the Chickamauga Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution. Ms. Hood, executive director of the Chattanooga Bar Association, was recognized for her “contributions to the community in an outstanding manner.”  

Ms. Hood is currently vice-chairperson of Erlanger and Children’s Hospital Foundation Council and will assume the chair for 2018-2019. She is past chairperson and a lifetime member of the UTC Chancellor’s Roundtable, has served or currently serves on the boards of directors of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, St. Peter’s Episcopal School, the American Cancer Society, the River Valley Chapter March of Dimes, Inner-city Ministries, and the Sentenga Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She has held or currently holds leadership positions on several of the boards. 

Ms. Hood is a graduate of Leadership Chattanooga and was nominated for the group’s first Lifetime Achievement Award. She was selected one of 10 for the “2011 Women of Distinction” of Chattanooga and a “Circle of Red” woman of the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women.”  

The Community Service Awards Committee was established by the National Board of Management of DAR as an opportunity for chapters and states to recognize worthy individuals and organizations for outstanding unpaid voluntary achievements in cultural, educational, humanitarian, patriotic, historical, citizenship, or environmental conservation endeavors.  

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a society of women who are direct descendants of Revolutionary War patriots, supports historic preservation, education and patriotism. So far in 2017 DAR members worldwide have volunteered 2.2 million hours in service to America.

Volkswagen To Build New 5-Passenger SUV In Chattanooga

Volkswagen officials announced Monday that they will build a new five-passenger SUV at the Chattanooga plant at the Enterprise South Industrial Park.
