A man who police say lives at a homeless camp in Renaissance Park has been charged in a North Chattanooga burglary.

Marvin Cummins, 46, was charged with aggravated burglary.

The owner of a massage business on Woodland Avenue said on Monday he found the business ransacked. He said he went downstairs to a vacant apartment and found a white male with no pants.

When he told the man he was going to call police, he asked him not to, saying he was homeless.

The man ran out while putting his pants on.

Officers said it appeared the man had been staying in the basement apartment because the bed was made and there were some personal items. One of them was a bottle of medication with the name of Marvin Cummins on it.

The officer said he was very familiar with Cummins "as  being one of the homeless parties that hangs out around Cherokee Boulevard." The store owner picked out Cummins from a photo lineup and also identified him when he was taken before him.

Cummins said he would take police to the stolen items. He led them "way back in the woods" to a homeless camp. Almost all of the missing items were found there. Some massage oils were also located.

Refuting Racism

In an opinion piece, 5/18/18, Rev. Josh Woodrow referred to me and my fellow School Board member, Joe Smith, as racists and white supremacists because we spoke out against busing. I have never met or spoken with Rev. Woodrow so he knows nothing about me. The reverend obviously knows nothing about Joe Smith either. Seems one of the reverend’s hobbies is “brewing beer”. Maybe, ... (click for more)
