Tenants Moving Into Restored Elks Building

Thursday, February 22, 2018

Though all the work is not completed, tenants are already moving into the restored Elks Building at 7th and Walnut streets.

Tiffanie Robinson, of Lamp Post Properties, said River Street Architecture has moved into the fourth floor, where the Elks once had a ballroom.

She said Woods Engineering has taken half of the third floor and will occupy the space in about three weeks.

Ms. Robinson said another group is discussing taking the entire second floor.

She said the first floor still contains the swimming pool used by club members. She said it is hoped a restaurant or other business might lease the space and put the pool area back into some type of unique use.

She said the small brick building next to the Elks Club and by Title Guaranty and Trust is connected to the Elks building on the lower floors. There is a rooftop area for the use of tenants on top of this old building. It is accessible from the fourth floor of the Elks Building.

The brick building was the original Title Guaranty and Trust.

Hamilton County government long occupied the Elks Building. It was renamed the Mayfield Annex. The county announced in 2015 that it was exiting the building.

The county also has long occupied the adjacent former Park Hotel on 7th Street, but is also vacating it. Known by the county as the Newell Towers, that seven-story building is also expected to be repurposed.

The Newell Towers was named for former Sheriff Frank Newell. The Mayfield Annex was named for former County Council member Jack Mayfield.

Lamp Post Properties also restored the former Cooper Office Supply building nearby on Cherry Street.
