Ken Akin - A True Mentor, Coach, Friend, Servant

Sunday, May 13, 2018

Saturday, a true man of God, his witness and a friend was memorialized as having passed to Glory. I was unable to attend as I was out of town but know that any good words said were true.

I had the privilege of knowing Ken through First Presbyterian and the Gideons. He had a passion to spread God’s Word and help people in need.

He and I served as a team for our walk-in ministry for those often in desperate need. I learned a lot about compassion and serving from Ken. His patience and long suffering with those that others might deem the unlovable was a witness to me. Ken looked for the good in those that I might have looked elsewhere in them.

His service as a coach enabled him to witness to and mentor hundreds of young people; he cared.
Whether you knew him as coach or teacher or Christian brother or “the man that gave out those little Bibles” we all knew the same man - God’s servant.

I know Jesus welcomed Ken and freed him from the pain and disease. Till we meet him again.
