County Clerk's Office Looks Into Complaints Of People Not Receiving License Plate Renewal Forms

Friday, July 13, 2018

County Clerk Bill Knowles said that the clerk’s office is receiving numerous inquiries relating to motorists not receiving license plate renewal reminder forms.

Mr. Knowles said, “The forms are prepared and sent from the Department of Revenue in Nashville and his office has been in contact with the state reporting the problem.

“I apologize for the inconvenience and want to assure motorists that their current tag receipt has sufficient information to renew a license plate. Also, the receipt will be accepted by the State Air Pollution Board’s vendor for emission testing that remains in effect until the Federal EPA approves the recent repeal of the law. Frequently asked questions regarding elimination of vehicle emission testing can be found

Mr. Knowles said, “After test compliance, results are electronically transmitted to our office enabling online renewal at If the tag receipt doesn’t have a title number displayed this can be obtained by calling 423 209-6525. If the registration date has been 90 days or more the Department of Revenue requires personal application in the office. When visiting the office simply bring your current tag receipt (or plate number), along with photo driver’s license for ID.”

Motorists may visit either Tag & Title office: Courthouse, 625 Georgia Ave., Room 101 or the Bonny Oaks branch at 6135 Heritage Park Drive. The hours of operation for both locations are 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
