Judge Collier Agrees To 1-Month Delay For Sentencing Of Former Pilot Travel Centers President Hazelwood

Thursday, August 9, 2018

Judge Curtis Collier has granted a one-month delay in the sentencing for former Pilot Travel Centers president Mark Hazelwood after he changed attorneys and asked for more time to study loss amounts in the fraud case against trucking companies.

The Hazelwood sentencing will be pushed back from Aug. 22 to Sept. 26 at 9 a.m. at Federal Court in Chattanooga.

Hazelwood, who went to trial along with three other former Pilot employees, is facing a possible lengthy prison sentence in the case in which trucking firms were cheated out of millions of dollars of promised rebates.

Hazelwood, who switched from attorney Rusty Hardin of Houston to attorney Brad Henry of Knoxville and New York City, had asked for a delay of 120 days but that was not granted..

Hazelwood is currently under house arrest at his home in Knoxville.

The government had opposed any delay in sentencing.

Judge Collier said he would not have agreed to allow Hazelwood to change lawyers had he known the new attorney would back up on a promise to be ready for the Aug. 22 date.

Here is the new sentencing schedule:

September 26, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. Mark Hazelwood

October 3, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. Scott Wombold, Heather Jones

November 7, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. Brian Mosher, John Freeman, Vicki Borden

December 19, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. Arnold Ralenkotter, Jay Stinnett, John Spiewak

January 23, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. Kevin Clark, Scott Fenwick,  Chris Andrews, Katy Bibee

February 20, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. Ashley Judd,  Holly Radford, Janet Welch,  Lexie Holden

Neither Honduras or our subjective media in America have been honest with us in the past. So, how do we know why that many people are marching across Central America? Then this morning ...
